The Rules of the Mind – Rule Number Seven

VII. IMAGINATION IS MORE POWERFUL THAN KNOWLEDGE WHEN DEALING WITH THE MIND. REASON IS EASILY OVERRULED BY IMAGINATION. WHENEVER IMAGINATION AND LOGIC ARE IN CONFLICT, IMAGINATION USUALLY WINS.

Reason is easily over ruled by imagination. Any idea accompanied by strong emotional content is difficult to modify with reason.

This is an important rule to remember when using self-hypnosis. reason is easily overruled by imagination. This is why some persons blindly rush into some unreasonable act or situation. Violent crimes based on jealousy are almost always caused by an overactive imagination. We are often blind to our own superstitions, prejudices, and unreasonable beliefs. Any idea accompanied by a strong emotion such as anger, hatred, love, or our political and religious beliefs usually cannot be modified through the use of reason. In using self-hypnosis we can form images in the subconscious mind, which is the feeling mind, and can remove, alter or amend the old ideas.

Knowledge is the means of the conscious mind to communicate with the subconscious mind using reason. The subconscious mind is the realm of emotions, dreams and aspirations. Together with knowledge, they form imagination. Two forces in unison are more powerful than either of the individual forces. Therefore, reason is easily overruled by imagination. Any idea that is accompanied by a strong emotion usually cannot be modified by reason alone. Hypnosis enables us to form images in our subconscious feeling mind, allowing us to change, or remove old ideas. This stems from the law of dominant effect.

VI. WORDS AND THOUGHTS HAVE NO POWER OVER YOU. THE ONLY POWER THEY HAVE IS THE POWER THAT YOU GIVE TO THEM

Remember, feelings of inadequacy start with negative thoughts that we have about ourselves. However, these thoughts have no power over us unless we act upon them. Thoughts are only words strung together. They have no meaning whatsoever. Only we give meaning to them, and we do so by focusing on the negative messages over and over again in our minds. We believe the worst about ourselves. And we choose what kind of meaning we give to them.
